KUALA LUMPUR: Friday, March 23rd 2012 was a night that carved a deep and unforgettable memory to every SONEs and millions of K-pop fans from all over Malaysia. This is because SM Entertainment finally brought Girls’ Generation for the first time to join a list of international artistes to perform at “TWIN TOWERS @ LIVE 2012” concert in conjunction with the F1 Malaysian Grand Pix at the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur.
The event started at 6.30pm with hits music played by DJ Prem to warm up the crowd. The crowd however was already heated up by their passion and excitement to watch Girls’ Generation’s performance. Every SONEs was holding up a sign which written “Finally you’re here”, to show how much have they been waiting for Girls’ Generation to perform in Malaysia.
The event was followed up by performance from ELECOLDXHOT, which is the dance crew that won championship on SHOWDOWN 2011. They have definitely added on the excitement of the crowd by showing off their awesome dance skills using K-pop songs such as Bubble Pop and I’m the Best. Later on, emcee Jojo Struys entered the stage to introduce Girls’ Generation to the crowd. Girls’ Generation kicked off the show with their latest song, The Boys. Upon seeing their favorite idol on stage, the crowd screamed their lungs out and sang along with Girls’ Generation.
Girls’ Generation is one of Asia’s most popular K-pop groups, who is often referred to as Soshi, or SNSD – abbreviations of their Korean Name So Nyeo Si Dae (소녀시대). Girls’ Generation consists of nine members – Yoona, Jessica, Taeyeon, Sunny, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Tiffany, Sooyoung and Seohyun.Unfortunately, there were only 8 members of Girls’ Generation who attended this event as one of the members; Yuri was busy shooting for her latest drama, Fashion King.
Girls’ Generation greeted their fans and introduced themselves one by one to the crowd. Girls’ Generation continued their performances with another 5 songs - Genie, Hoot, Run Devil Run, Mr. Taxi and also their 2009 hit single, Gee that holds the longest record for being the number 1 song on KBS Music Bank.
Before Girls’ Generation left, they promised their fans that they will definitely return to Malaysia again with all 9 members performing on stage. SONEs were screaming excitedly upon their promises.
The second half of the show was led by performances from James Baum and Reshmonu who are both talented singers and songwriters. Around 11.15pm, the crowd was excited all over again as emcee Jojo Struys went on stage to introduce the American singer, songwriter and dancer – Nicole Scherzinger, who is also the leader of the well-known female group, PussyCat Dolls. She rocked the stage with 6 hit songs from Pussy Cat Dolls era and also from her solo album which are Club Banger Nation, Poison, Buttons, Jai Ho, I Hate this Part and Baby Love.
The event ended with performance by the established model and Miss Universe Malaysia 2010, DJ Nadine.
KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds of fans were gathering in front of the main entrance of KLCC on Saturday, 24th of March 2011 for “TWIN TOWERS @ LIVE 2012” second night performances. The show started off at 8.30pm with a unique and creative dance performance by ELECOLDXHOT. The event is followed by performance from Malaysian multi award-winning star and songwriter – Faizal Tahir. He had definitely warmed up the crowd with his hit songs and his humorous jokes together with the emcee of the day, Deborah Henry.
Finally, the crowd was shouting in excitement when emcee Deborah Henry introduced the next performing guest – Orianthi. Orianthi is dubbed as one of the world’s most talented female guitarist and her guitar skills was well known ever since being selected as Michael Jackson’s lead guitarist back in 2009. She had definitely impressed the audiences with her awesome guitar skills while performing 5 of her hit songs – Heaven in Hell, Bad News, Think like a Man, According to You, and Fire.
The show was later on followed by the performance from the Grammy nominated R&B singer – Kelis Rogers. She heated up the crowd with her hit songs - Show me Love, Spaceship, Lil’ Star, A Capella, Trick you and Milk Shake. Her song Milk Shake definitely brought all the boys and the girls to the yard.
The show finally came to an end with the performance from local rocker – DJ Nikki. She continued heating up the crowd with awesome songs playing through the night.
Overall, the event is really successful. It has brought unexpected surprises and has created excitement to all the fans in Malaysia. Hopefully more similar events would be organized in the near future, and of course, we hope that Girls’ Generation will pay us a second visit to Malaysia again.
